Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at service@texanmechanical.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Texan Mechanical A/C & Heating offers a wide range of HVAC services, including installation,  replacement, routine maintenance, and repair of heating, and air conditioning systems for both residential and commercial clients.

Yes, Texan Mechanical A/C & Heating offers emergency service for air conditioning and heating repairs on evenings and weekends by request. Please call our office directly to schedule emergency service.

Yes, in order to compensate our technician and cover the costs of vehicles, fuel, gas, and dispatching, there is an $89.00 fee for our technician to come out and diagnose your issue. Our members are never charged a service fee during normal business hours.

Unfortunately, we do not credit the service call fee to your repair. You do have the oppotunity to have the fee refunded entirely if you choose to join one of our maintenance programs within 7 days of your initial service.

A new HVAC system has three main components. The condenser, which is the equipment located outside of your home, the evaporator coil and furnace located in the attic. All three pieces of equipment work together to provide heating and cooling capabilities and drive the air throughout your home. When you replace your HVAC system, all of these components are included. Duct work is not included with a standard equipment change out.

When quoting you a new AC system, we base the sizing on the current equipment. If you have made any structural changes to your home like room additions, we recommend having a Manual J completed to calculate the heat load in your home and size your system properly.

HVAC systems as a whole can last up to 10-15 years. Evaporator coils have an average life expectancy of 5-7 years, with the condenser lasting 10-15 with proper maintenance. Furnaces, especially in Southeast Texas tend to last a little longer, even up to 18-20 years due to limited use. There are small components that tend to wear out faster than others, but with quick repair response, you will reduce risk to the rest of the system.

All parts warranties cover just that, the replacement part and is covered by the manufacturer. Texan Mechanical provides a minimum of a 1 year labor warranty on all repairs and installations.

Parts and labor warranties exclude Weather Related Damage

Power Surges

Misuse or Neglect

Lack of Maintenance

Clogged Drain Lines

Unauthorized Repairs - Texan Mechanical will not honor any labor warranty if another company completes repairs or tampers with our installation or installed equipment

Yes! Having to repair or replace your AC system is not a fun expensive, but a necessary one. We offer Special Financing at 0% financing for 60 months on most of our complete system replacements. For partial system replacements and repairs, we offer Standard Financing at a discounted rate.

To keep your HVAC system running efficiently, it's important to have it serviced at least twice per year. We recommend a Cooling Tune Up in the Spring, before the summer heat approaches, and a Heating Tune Up in the Fall, prior to the short but tempermental winters we get in Houston.

If you notice ice on the lines leading from the condenser into the home or on the equipment in the attic, that means the system is freezing up due to lack of refrigerant. It is best to turn the unit to OFF and the fan to ON to allow the system to defrost and call us! We will leak check the system to determine the issue and provide options to get you up and running again.

If your unit is blowing warm air, there are several things that could be causing this. However, you should never have to add refrigerant to a system. HVAC systems are sealed, pressurized systems, meaning if there is a lack of charge in the system, there is a leak somewhere that needs to be found.

We do not recommend adding refrigrant to the system when a leak is found or it is low. We have no way to guage the size of the leak, and refrigerant is expensive. Charging the unit could last 2 days or 2 years, there is no way of knowing. We don't recommend risking it and vaporizing your hard earned money into the atmosphere.

Houston is a humid city but that is why we offer top of the line AC systems. AC systems are designed to remove the humidity from your home when running. If you are having high humidity issues throughout the house, there is an underlying problem. The unit could be low on refrigerant, the system is not running often enought to remove the humidity in the home or you have poor insulation or poorly sealed duct work. Normal humidity inside your home should range between 55-65%.

This is an indication the unit is low on refrigerant. We recommend turning the unit off and calling us to do an evaluation and find the problem.

Power surges are a common problem in our area. Even when your lights dont flicker, the system may have experience a sudden hiccup in energy. Compressors are designed not to immediately start up after a surge to protect themselves. Turn the unit off for 15-20 minutes to allow the compressor to reset and turn back on. If you do not hear the compressor turn on or the unit is still not running, call us. The surge may have damaged key components.

We recommend adding surge protectors to both the condenser and furnace to protect the motors from sudden surges. Even if you have a whole home surge protector, it is still recommended specifically for the HVAC equipment. Especially on multi-speed and variable speed systems.

This is your secondary drain line, designed to act as a notification to you that something is wrong with your system. If you see water coming from this spot, your primary drain line is clogged and you need to do routine maintenance. Do not disregard this notification, if the secondary clogs, you will have water backing up into your drain pan and cause a potential risk of flooding your home. Especially if you do not have an overflow switch installed.

The overflow switch is a device installed on your systems drain pans to prevent overflow of condensation onto the attic subflooring and your ceiling. The overflow switch is activated in the event the pan begins to fill with water and will turn the system off to avoid water damage in your home. You will be notified of the problem when you find the system not working, rather than your ceiling being flooded.

Honestly, probably not. At least not all of it if they even consider it. Home Warranty companies are notorious for denying claims due to "lack of maintenance", even if you had your system maintenanced a month ago. It is very important to have records of routine maintenance on your system to get the home warranty to even consider your claim.

Once they do consider it, they only cover a portion of the repair. The out of pocket expenses, for items that are necessary to complete the repair, add up quickly. We do not work directly with the home warranty companies, but we recommend you ask for a buy out option, especially when it comes to equipment replacement,

Maintenance plans can be canceled with written notice within 30 days of the renewal date. Plans cannot be canceled during the 12 month period unless paid in full. In the event you must cancel, an additional Early Termination Fee fo $150 will be assessed.

Members receive tune ups, services, repairs and replacements at a discounted cost. You may not sign up for maintenance, receive discounted services, and cancel your plan without payment.

Congrats on your new home! We have a few options if you move during the term of your maintenace agreement.

Transfer Your Plan - We are happy to transfer your active maintenance plan to your new address.

Gift Your Remaining Services - You can gift your remaining tune up to the new residents of your current home. The remaining balance would continue to be drafted from your card on file until paid in full.

Refer Texan to the New Owner - We love referrals! Refer the new buyer to Texan Mechanical and we will transfer the plan to their name and they can then take over payment of the plan and begin using the benefits and discounts.

Cancel - We understand that some of our clients relocate outside of Houston and Texas when moving. You may cancel your plan once paid in full and early termination fee is paid.

Yes, we are equipped to complete an extensive inspection on your heating and cooling equipment when required for foster care.

Hiring a licensed HVAC company to do a thourough inspection of the equipment before you purchase your new home is very important. Real Estate inspectors are not licensed technicians and can only flag items inspected visually. As one of the most costly repairs at your home, it is important to be aware of the system condition and what you are getting into before you close. We provide a detailed report with photos and recommendations, and will provide estimates for any recommended repairs.

We offer inspections for sellers as well. Ensure your system is running properly and efficiently so you are not surprised when the buyer does their due dilligence.

If you have a standby or portable generator for emergencies, you absolutely need to add a soft start kit to your HVAC system. The inrush the HVAC system creates on start up when the generator is running can cause an overload and shut your generator down. Thus defeating the purpose of the generator.
